Synopsis:
While the Tree of Life represents the unity of Gods creation, the Qliphoth symbolizes the path of death, destruction, and decay through which the initiate achieves self-deification, becoming God unto themselves. In this sense, the former is based upon the worship of a demiurgic being, beyond human comprehension, while the latter attempts to usurp the demiurge so that he may achieve godhood, endowed with the powers of creation and destruction. The Tree of Life allows the adept to merge with the unity of God while the Qliphoth enable the individual to separate themselves from such unity and create their own reality, channelling the power of the Black Flame. This tension, between unity and separation, is the primary difference between the left- and right-hand path, with satanists seeking to overthrow the demiurgic power-structure so they can control their own destiny. The Black Star of Nuit, however, aims to unify both currents by suggesting that creation and destruction, being and non-being, separation and unity, light and darkness, logos and anti-logos, God and Satan, are simulacral projections of a nothingness so supreme that it is beyond such dualities, even that of duality and non-duality.
Drawing upon the teachings of Theosophy, Thelema, Buddhism and Hinduism, as well as the work of Kenneth Grant, the book suggests that one must walk the Qliphothic path in order to overthrow the demiurge and achieve self-deification, however, at the same time, remain supremely humble in the knowledge that they never leave the womb of the Divine Mother, the Ain. While Crowleys religion of Thelema has largely gone out of fashion since his death, his conception of Hadit, as the Hidden God, the True Will, in the centre of Nuit, the Goddess of absolute nothingness, provides a valuable framework for uniting these two currents. By walking through the Tunnels of Set, destroying all false illusions, attachments and desires, the Luciferian Light shines forth and the initiate becomes the Hidden God, discovering the infinite potential within. However, at the same time, they are nothing without the Divine Mother, beyond being and non-being. Thus, one becomes the worshipper and the worshipped, the slayer and the slain, the master and the slave, simultaneously overthrowing the demiurgic tyranny while revering the Goddess of all Goddess. You realize that you are God, the source of all creation and destruction, because you are ALL and NOTHING, yet an individual ONE. This magical scheme not only provides practical techniques for invoking the Qliphothic powers but also invoking the forces of Hadit, Nuit and Ra-Hoor-Khuit, combining left-hand-path workings with Thelemic Magic. It also provides meditations for achieving the neither-neither state and intuiting the infinite nothingness of absolute consciousness. In this sense, it provides a highly dynamic system of magick, transcending the simple dualities of left and right-hand philosophy.
